Accessibility
Wayword is built to WCAG 2.2 level AA, in the app and on this site. If something gets in your way, tell us and we’ll fix it.

In the app
- Every screen works with VoiceOver and TalkBack, with labeled buttons and a sensible reading order.
- Text follows your phone’s text size up to 200%, and layouts reflow instead of cutting text off.
- Light and dark themes; every text color pair meets AA contrast in both, and is checked by automated tests.
- Tap targets are at least 48 by 48 points.
- Right and wrong are never shown by color alone: there’s always an icon and words.
- Animations follow your phone’s reduce-motion setting.
- Speaking is never required: “Can’t talk right now” turns speaking drills into silent ones, and any drill can be skipped.
- Audio has the text on screen, plus a slow version.
On this website
- Real headings and landmarks, a skip link, and full keyboard use with a visible focus outline.
- AA contrast in light and dark mode; it follows your system setting.
- Forms have visible labels, say what went wrong and how to fix it, and keep what you typed.
- Nothing moves on its own and no audio plays until you press play.
- Pages reflow at 320 pixels wide and at 400% zoom.
How we test
Automated checks (axe-core on every page of this site; Flutter accessibility and contrast tests on every app screen at 100% and 200% text, light and dark), a keyboard pass, and an on-device check of the app’s screen-reader tree.
Known limits
- Speaking feedback depends on speech recognition, which can struggle with some voices and speech differences. It’s a guide, not a grade, and speaking can be turned off.
- Tab bar labels in the app stop growing at 110% text size so they don’t break mid-word; screen readers still read the full label.
